Why I Love Being a Virtual Assistant

I didn’t grow up saying, “I want to be a virtual assistant when I’m older.”

Honestly, I didn’t even know what a VA was for a long time. But somewhere between working behind the scenes in healthcare, managing schedules that never seemed to slow down, and being the person everyone relied on to “just make it work,” I realized something important:

I love being the calm behind the chaos.

Creating Order Where There’s Overwhelm

Most of the clients we work with are incredibly good at what they do. They’re clinicians, practitioners, founders, and business owners who care deeply about their work — and about the people they serve.

But behind the scenes, many are doing everything they can just to keep up. Organization takes a back seat to urgency. Systems live in their heads. Long hours become normal. Burnout creeps in quietly. And before they even realize it, they’re operating in survival mode — reacting instead of leading.

What I love about being a VA is stepping into that space and helping things feel lighter. Not by adding more tasks or rigid systems, but by creating structure that actually supports how someone works. Systems that bring clarity. Processes that reduce mental load. Support that helps people step out of survival mode and back into control.

Supporting People — Not Just Businesses

A lot of people assume virtual assistance is just task-based work. But for me, it’s always been about people first.

I don’t just build professional relationships with my clients — I build them with their clients too. I’m often the first point of contact: the voice on the phone, the person responding to emails, the one helping someone feel welcomed, supported, and cared for before they’ve even met the practitioner.

Nothing makes me prouder than when one of my client’s patients compliments me — the communication, the organization, the experience — before they’ve even had their first appointment. That’s when I know the systems we’ve put in place are working, and that care truly starts behind the scenes.

Variety, Growth, and Meaningful Work

No two days look the same, and I love that. Some days I’m deep in workflows and SOPs. Other days I’m problem-solving, supporting content planning, or helping a client rethink how their operations are set up altogether.

This work lets me use both sides of my brain — the detail-oriented, systems-loving side and the relational, creative side. It keeps me challenged, engaged, and constantly learning.

Work That Fits My Life

Being a virtual assistant has given me more than flexibility — it’s given me alignment.

I’ve been able to build a business that supports my life, not one that competes with it. I get to show up for my family, take care of myself, and still do work I’m deeply proud of. And as The Admin Edit continues to grow, I get to do that alongside a team of incredible women who bring their own strengths, care, and personality into everything we do.

That part still feels surreal sometimes.
